National Men's Health Week

Posted on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 in General Health News

Many of our practices are dedicated to keeping men healthy and fit. Those include: orthopedics, sports medicine, internal medicine, allergy and immunology, behavioral health, chiropractic, colon and rectal care, endocrinology, nutrition, neurology, physical medicine and rehab, podiatry and rheumatology.

To commemorate this week, Signature would like to offer tips that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend for men to improve their health:

  • Get good sleep. Adults need between 7-9 hours of sleep. Insufficient sleep is associated with a number of chronic diseases and conditions. Also, poor sleep is responsible for motor vehicle and machinery accidents.
  • Quit smoking. It's never too late to quit. Also try to avoid secondhand smoke.
  • Move more. Adults need at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week, and muscle strengthening activities that work all major muscle groups. You don't have to do it all at once. Spread out your activity.
  • Eat healthy. Try a variety of fruits and vegetables. Limit your intake of sugar, salt, fat and alcohol.
  • Tame stress. Some stress is good but it can be harmful when it makes you feel overwhelmed. Find support, connect socially and stay active.
  • Stay on top of your game. Pay attention to signs and symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, excessive thirst, and problems with urination.

If you have those symptoms of any other questions, be sure to make an appointment today to see a Signature Medical Group doctor. Your health and well-being are important to us.
