Dr. Buck Smith of Signature Orthopedics, a division of Signature Medical Group, is now utilizing MoveWright™ for total ankle replacement surgeries.
Ankle arthritis can often be traced back to a traumatic injury, and occurs when the protective cartilage between the bones gradually wears down. This bone-on-bone contact can cause pain, swelling, stiffness, and reduced ankle mobility over time. The MoveWright™ ankle replacement procedure replaces the damaged cartilage with a customized implant that bends and flexes to mimic the natural movement of a healthy ankle, allowing patients to get back to living active lifestyles.
Ankle replacement is not one size-fits all procedure. The MoveWright™ total ankle system is designed with this in mind, and offers three different implants that can be used and tailored according to patients’ specific needs and ankle anatomy. The procedure is designed to relieve arthritic pain and restore movement to damaged ankle joints.
“Ankle arthritis can be quite debilitating and can lead to a host of other issues due to an altered gait,” Dr. Smith said. “With advances in ankle replacement technology within the last decade, we can greatly improve the patient's pain and function.”
Dr. Kenneth S. "Buck" Smith is a St. Louis-based sports medicine physician and a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship-trained in foot and ankle surgery. Over the course of his career, Dr. Smith has cared for professional athletes on teams such as the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos, and the Denver Nuggets, as well as athletes at the University of Colorado.
“If patients have been dealing with moderate to severe pain and stiffness in the ankle and would like to learn more about this procedure and other strategies to help alleviate pain, we would love to see them in the office for a consult,” Dr. Smith said.
Dr. Smith is accepting new patients at our Signature Orthopedics South County and Fenton locations. +
